Johnny Depp has revealed that he would like to portray a woman in a future film project.
The Public Enemies star previously played a cross-dressing director in the 1994 movie Ed Wood. However, the actor has admitted that he is keen to appear as 88-year-old singer-actress Carol Channing.
"I would like to play Carol Channing next. I do like Carol Channing, I really do," he told BANGShowbiz.com.
Channing made her mark on Broadway in the stage version of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes as Lorelei Lee, who Marilyn Monroe later immortalised in the film of the same name. Channing also won best actress in a comedy Tony Award for her portrayal of Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly!.
Depp added that he wants to test his versatility as an actor with any type of female lead role. "In the digital age you can do anything. I could even play a 12-year-old girl at this point," he said.
The 44-year-old can next be seen in the film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s The Rum Diary.
